One very visible effect of AI this summer has been a large influx of bug fixes. In some sense, it is the opposite of AI slop. I manage widely deployed libraries and, in some cases, the number of pull requests has been doubled. In the simdjson library, I merged 92 pull requests in 2024, I am at 134 thus far. In many instances, AI found long standing well hidden bugs. It makes me happy because I dislike bugs. But this puts stress on people packaging and distributing these libraries.
