Filesystem reads in that case are 10 nanoseconds at most (the filesystem cache helps so much here) but doing any network roundtrip is 10 milliseconds at minimum. It's at least a million times slower because of how reality works.

Introducing Vercel Labs Tools for devs in the AI era agent-browser, skills, json-render, deepsec, fx, just-bash, portless, vgpu and more We experiment in public: ship early, learn from feedback, and keep working on what people find useful We've been shipping under the Labs name for a while. Now, Labs is an official team at Vercel focused on exploring new capabilities and primitives that change what developers and agents can do. Here's what to expect: → Labs products: maintained, supported, built to be relied on → Active experiments: moves fast, expect rough edges and breaking changes → Past e… vercel.com

In another case of it being quicker to build a tool than hunt around to find something that does what you need, here's a little vibe-coded thing for turning one or more GeoJSON shapes into a rendered PNG simonwillison.net

Programmer; makes Handmade Hero and teaches Performance-Aware Programming, and argues loudly about how software got slow.
Their words
300 milliseconds is like an eternity in computing, right? And so if you're talking about like our pitch is that we're not more than 300 milliseconds, that just shows you how the bar was so far past where it probably should have been for something.

We're starting to leave the territory where you'd test an LLM by e.g. "create an svg of pelican on a bicycle". As one idea to generalize it, I was interested what Opus 5 would do if I gave it the first paragraph of the Lord of the Rings, a 1M token budget (~$10) and asked for three js render of it. Opus went off for ~2 hours and wrote 5500 lines of code that (procedurally) rendered the story. It's kind of janky but fun. But it's a bit mindboggling that the LLM has to place and orchestrate various polygon assets in (x,y,z) coordinates and write code that animates it all, and that it even does… LLMs Related

What is a korrent?
A korrent is a belief a person has stated in their own words: one
sentence stating the claim, backed by a quote and a source, kept at
korrents.com .
Under a name here, the quoted block is what they actually said.
The korrent beneath it is the claim those words support, in
korrents' wording — tap it to see the record, its source, and who
else holds it.
Nobody here wrote their own korrents. They are compiled from public
statements, and a person can change their mind, which is recorded too.

About the English under a post
Some people here publish in a language other than English. Where they
do, this site shows a machine translation beneath the post, in
this typeface — the site's own, not theirs.
The post itself is never changed, moved or hidden: what is set in the
serif above is exactly what the person published, and it is what to
quote them on. A translation can be wrong in ways that matter,
especially about tone.
Only the post's own words are translated. A quoted post, a linked
article and a belief on korrents.com
are left in their original language.
