Their words
Yes. Some people will be priced out of producing software. Just like only some people could afford a personal computer in the 80s and 90s, for the next few years, if you can’t get enough tokens, you’re playing second league.

Dario Amodei asked the industry to pace itself on a Saturday. But what does that word mean? Pacing is a policy question. Five camps priced the consequences & none named a speed. Related

It was painful to see so many users being priced out of AI coding for a while. But now it’s free to build again! Quoting @Kyrannio Replit introducing free mode is the best thing they have ever done, but even if you are not using free mode, you are really getting a screaming great deal to develop with at present. Development costs everywhere are going to go up as the newer models come out, but I genuinely can't recommend Replit… Related

The German startup Magnotherm is pioneering a new type of cooling technology: Instead of compressing a refrigerant gas, as usual, their fridges use metals that heat up in magnetic fields and cool when the field is removed. This can effectively be used to move the heat from one location (eg inside the fridge) to another (outside the fridge). The idea itself is not new, it goes back to the 19th century, but Magnotherm is the first to make the step to commercial use. Earlier this year, they announced that the German supermarket chain REWE will deploy their new fridges in 10 stores. The company s… startups Related

Almost every technology boom creates a bubble, then a bust, whether it’s railroads, the Industrial Revolution, or the late 1920s. Think about the late '20s: electricity, refrigeration, telephones, radios, airplanes, and cars were all emerging at once. Naturally, people wanted to invest in these miracles. The danger is that people fail to distinguish the miracle from the investment. A technology can be truly transformative, but if the stocks are priced too high or bought on debt, you get a crash. That is the mechanics behind how bubbles form and burst. New technology will be great, there is no… energy Related

RE: https://cosocial.ca/@mhoye/117190449442518308 On the one end people are being priced out of running web services due to hardware shortages caused by AI, on the other end those who still run web services are being bled dry by AI scrapers essentially stealing compute. Related

interesting to read this article (in french) about how some movies are no longer distributed https://www.lapresse.ca/cinema/chroniques/2024-04-26/repertoire-des-films-disparus.php the only way I could find one of the movies in this article was to borrow the DVD from the library, and then I bought a DVD player on fb marketplace to watch it (also the tray on the DVD player I got wouldn't open so I ended up disassembling the DVD player to put the disc in) Related

Claude Haiku is my current least favorite model - it hallucinates wildly, and is out-performed now by other similarly priced models like GPT-5.6-Luna
Even worse: it seems to still be used by the Claude Code WebFetch tool, which means hallucination risk any time you fetch a URL!

What is a korrent?
A korrent is a belief a person has stated in their own words: one
sentence stating the claim, backed by a quote and a source, kept at
korrents.com .
Under a name here, the quoted block is what they actually said.
The korrent beneath it is the claim those words support, in
korrents' wording — tap it to see the record, its source, and who
else holds it.
Nobody here wrote their own korrents. They are compiled from public
statements, and a person can change their mind, which is recorded too.

About the English under a post
Some people here publish in a language other than English. Where they
do, this site shows a machine translation beneath the post, in
this typeface — the site's own, not theirs.
The post itself is never changed, moved or hidden: what is set in the
serif above is exactly what the person published, and it is what to
quote them on. A translation can be wrong in ways that matter,
especially about tone.
Only the post's own words are translated. A quoted post, a linked
article and a belief on korrents.com
are left in their original language.
