This was the first year in a long time that the US stock index (VTI) got trounced by International stocks (VXUS). I was shocked by this difference: VTI: +18.6% VXUS: +33% (!!) This was good for my @Betterment account, which holds about an allocation of non-US stocks and has thus lagged a US-only portfolio for a while. Even after this run, VXUS is much cheaper, trading at a P/E ratio of 17 (and paying a 3.6% dividend) versus our ~27 ratio for the US index which a paltry 1.1 dividend. Will the outperformance continue in the coming years to help these two competitors even back out? Historically…

The option arbitrage stuff via yesterday's poll, @DeepDishEnjoyer dividend, and the silver early exercise post has spawned a bunch of chats on TL & DMs. Seems to be a lot of people screwing with options but missing fundamental education. Another first-principles type example: Related

Does anyone else find YouTube increasingly unusable, as all videos now have the repulsive “You were LIED TO about x,” “ You will be SHOCKED BY x,” giant-head, overproduced thumbnails attached? I find myself intentionally avoiding all of it now. Related

Today in "iPhone apps are already iPad apps", here's Quick Reads for iOS running on iOS 27 as the screen gets wider with zero code changes so far. I really think this will be Apple's differentiator in folding phones. I'm kind of shocked how many Android apps simply don't take any advantage of a larger screen, while I think a lot of iPhone apps will do this automatically. If your app runs on the iPhone and iPad, it very likely may just work on day one without the dev needing to do anything. Related

The whole country will be utterly shocked by the awful news about the circumstances of Ann Widdecombe’s death. Today we come together across the political divide and I pay tribute to Ann’s dedication during her many years of public service. My thoughts and deepest condolences are with Ann’s family and friends. Related

A cheap stock without a catalyst is a value trap plus a prayer for a bull market. (That is chasing beta) https://t.co/0XrAuqYqhz The most common catalysts are earnings growth when combined with very low P/E multiples plus a high dividend yield. Doesn’t happen very often but a setup like this must result in stock price appreciation otherwise the yields start exceeding bond yields which by themselves are catalysts for re-rating. There are many other catalysts based on developments inside the company (corporate actions) or developments in markets (eg increase in free float, inclusion in an index… Related

I'm overdue for a @Betterment experiment update, but I really like these monthly emails. None of my other brokerages does it nearly as well. Also: Wooohoo to my dividend income alone having surpassed my $1000/month auto deposit! This is where your wealth really becomes a Snowball. Related

What is a korrent?
A korrent is a belief a person has stated in their own words: one
sentence stating the claim, backed by a quote and a source, kept at
korrents.com .
Under a name here, the quoted block is what they actually said.
The korrent beneath it is the claim those words support, in
korrents' wording — tap it to see the record, its source, and who
else holds it.
Nobody here wrote their own korrents. They are compiled from public
statements, and a person can change their mind, which is recorded too.

About the English under a post
Some people here publish in a language other than English. Where they
do, this site shows a machine translation beneath the post, in
this typeface — the site's own, not theirs.
The post itself is never changed, moved or hidden: what is set in the
serif above is exactly what the person published, and it is what to
quote them on. A translation can be wrong in ways that matter,
especially about tone.
Only the post's own words are translated. A quoted post, a linked
article and a belief on korrents.com
are left in their original language.
