While I really like prototypes, because you can convey ideas easier by interacting with the real thing, it’s also important to know when not to do them. Prototypes have this flaw that because everything is already built, and it looks so real, people might assume that all the decisions have already been made. That’s because the building step was the most expensive before AI, but it’s not anymore. So sometimes, it’s better to ask the why first. Why are we making this in the first place? Allow yourself to be slow, write a doc with your reasoning, and only after you are aligned, start prototyping…

right now, that whole front end has been like kind of smooshed because many times we can just like prototype really really rapidly and kind of solidify some of what we're thinking in terms of like ideas and coding. So I fully expect that part of the outer loop is just going to be collapsed as well, right?

PMs are no longer saying to the designer, hey, can you draw this thing out for me? That frees up designer time to go explore more deeply the stuff they need to go into and it allows anyone to kind of add to that first conversation of where should we go and look further and wider and broader at the option space.
