What they believe

Most programming languages in use today derive from Fortran or Lisp, both created in the 1950s.
Pretty much any programming language used today is a derivative of Fortran or Lisp, both born in the 1950s.

Register-based virtual machines can run faster than stack-based virtual machines despite needing larger instruction encodings.
Register-based virtual machines avoid the push and pop operations usually surrounding other instructions, reducing code size, but in several cases also increases speed of execution (compared to stack-based virtual machines).

The 1950s called and wanted their toolbox back Said 1 Jan 2013
Programming today still relies on one-dimensional, sequential plain text, largely unchanged from decades ago.
professional and hobbyist programmers alike all use the same tools as we did 60 years ago - one-dimensional, sequential plain text.
The 1950s called and wanted their toolbox back Said 1 Jan 2013
Programming needs a fundamental reinvention beyond text-based coding, comparable to the 1950s shift from physical controls to textual commands.
The field of programming need to see a renaissance in fundamental reinvention, just as it did in the 1950s when programming machines using levers and buttons was replaced by programming machines using textual sequences of computer commands.

Sol — a sunny little virtual machine Said 14 Oct 2012
Cooperative multitasking suits coherent, specialized systems better than general-purpose operating systems.
These systems often benefit from cooperative multitasking, in particular coherent, specialized systems (unlike operating systems which are general by nature).

What is a korrent?
A korrent is a belief a person has stated in their own words: one sentence stating the claim, backed by a quote and a source, kept at korrents.com.
Under a name here, the quoted block is what they actually said. The korrent beneath it is the claim those words support, in korrents' wording — tap it to see the record, its source, and who else holds it.
Nobody here wrote their own korrents. They are compiled from public statements, and a person can change their mind, which is recorded too.

Uses MacBook Pro
I try to minimize the number of things in my life, thus I have one MacBook Pro 15", one iPhone 4 and an iPad which I should probably sell or give away (since I don't really use it).

Loved GitHub
GitHub is an amazing place, product and breeding ground for ideas revolving around software development, created by the ever so humble Chris Wanstrath (and Tom Preston-Werner).

Liked TextMate
TextMate has been my companion in all weathers during many years, but when I quit Spotify to join Facebook and had a long vacation in between, I decided to put some effort into writing a "better" programmer's text editor which I call Kod, released in December 2010.

Uses TotalFinder
Other peripheral stuff I use include Droplr for sharing screenshots, MenuMeters for understanding "why the hell is my computer suddenly slow?", TotalFinder which provides tabbed Finder windows and a bunch of less visual stuff related to the shell.

Uses Spotlight
I try to live with what's already there, like using Spotlight instead of Alfred or Quicksilver which surely have more features, but are new tools to learn and master.

Uses Dropbox
My ~/Documents are managed by Dropbox so I never need to worry when my computer gets stolen.

Liked Logitech MX 400
When in need to do precision work (pixel-precision stuff), I employ my super secret weapon: a simple and wired Logitech MX 400 mouse.

Loved Leica M9
Namely an M9, M8, M6 and a 500C/M. These amazing creations are the result of over 50 years of craftsmanship, love and a need for functional tools.

- Over the past few weeks I've been spending a lot of time in Figma, working on the next phase of Playbit. Using robots for writing code, Figma feels like the perfect "grounding truth" for software. In many ways it beats plan & design docs. I just tell the bots (in their AGENTS.md) to look in Figma as well as my docs. Then, as they go along with their various tasks they look for guidance in my Figma doc, and I just keep working in Figma. Sometimes I ask a bot to add a page with a GUI sketch (some UI state that's missing) or to draw me a schematic of some mechanism of the implementation. It woul… 29 Sept 2026

- It’s amazing to see people discover the joy of making your own personal-scale software. Interestingly most of what at least I see on my timeline is art/entertainment, not productivity software. I have a growing suspicion that existing productivity software is quickly becoming a “middle man” (which means their days are numbered.) Someone says “but people use email, I need to do email” — what they mean is people communicate and that’s true, but it being email or as text on a screen is kind of irrelevant on a human level. The economy of software is moving so quickly right now that it’s hard to e… 8 Sept 2026

- Inter is having impact beyond my wildest dreams. When I started working on Inter ten years ago, I didn’t even expect it to survive the prototyping stage. Now it’s used by governments (including Switzerland, which is ironic in a way) and non-profit organizations around the world, bringing good typography to the people. It warms my heart to see so many young designers being able to express themselves in “Swiss style” without the need to break any laws. About the English under a post
Some people here publish in a language other than English. Where they do, this site shows a machine translation beneath the post, in this typeface — the site's own, not theirs.
The post itself is never changed, moved or hidden: what is set in the serif above is exactly what the person published, and it is what to quote them on. A translation can be wrong in ways that matter, especially about tone.
Only the post's own words are translated. A quoted post, a linked article and a belief on korrents.com are left in their original language.
