A podcast recently left me in tears, sitting in my car "Sold a Story" traces how a deeply flawed theory of reading took over American classrooms for decades, despite mountains of evidence proving it didn't work It's a masterclass in storytelling It's also a wake-up call for anyone who creates educational content: popular and effective are not the same thing I wrote about what this taught me about virality, trust, and the content I put out every week America Related

It’s so wild how good image and video models are getting. It’s not hard to see how in a decade (or sooner) the meaning of images you see has completely changed meaning. It makes me curious about the idea of cryptographically proving that an image was actually “captured” (recording of photon emission.) bfl.ai

In another variant of https://danluu.com/learn-what/, I caught up with a former colleague who worked on automated theorem proving. It turns out he's had an interesting career doing all sorts of interesting stuff using the skills he developed by spending a decade writing/using theorem provers. At one point, he said, "if you use X like a theorem prover, it works really well", which surprised me to hear, but of course this is a highly generalizable skill just like compilers or benchmarking/evals. I'm much more comfortable with the fox paradigm. Yeah. So yeah, I like looking for analogies, narratives. I spend a lot of time… If there's a result, I see it in one field, and I like the result, it's a cool result, but I don't like the proof, it uses types of mathematics that I'm not super familiar with, I often try to re-prove it myself using the tools that I favor.

What is a korrent?
A korrent is a belief a person has stated in their own words: one
sentence stating the claim, backed by a quote and a source, kept at
korrents.com .
Under a name here, the quoted block is what they actually said.
The korrent beneath it is the claim those words support, in
korrents' wording — tap it to see the record, its source, and who
else holds it.
Nobody here wrote their own korrents. They are compiled from public
statements, and a person can change their mind, which is recorded too.

About the English under a post
Some people here publish in a language other than English. Where they
do, this site shows a machine translation beneath the post, in
this typeface — the site's own, not theirs.
The post itself is never changed, moved or hidden: what is set in the
serif above is exactly what the person published, and it is what to
quote them on. A translation can be wrong in ways that matter,
especially about tone.
Only the post's own words are translated. A quoted post, a linked
article and a belief on korrents.com
are left in their original language.
