I'm not of fan of regulation for two reasons - 1) its hard to get right, and 2) its highly susceptible to regulatory capture. That said, if we insist on doing it, we should try to get it correct. As "safety" seems is the primary goal of this AI regulation exercise, I wanted to share that I recently went deep on both the 737 Max (2 crashes) and Fukushima accidents. In both cases, the investigations led to a conclusion that "regulatory capture" was the EXACT failure that led to both safety incidents. Boeing/FAA and Tepco/NISA. As a result, with safety as the #1 goal, the regulator MUST BE someo… Related

The usual default math assumes debtors want to pay. But founder-controlled firms with a "you lent us too much" attitude introduce a strategic-default option that standard systems of ratings do not fully capture.

Last call! Enrollment for Cohort 2 of The AI Second Brain closes tonight at midnight PT Our next (and last) cohort this year starts Thursday Here's what you'll walk away with: • Stop re-explaining yourself to every new AI chat. Build one document it reads first, so it already knows you • Connect AI to your notes and files safely, so its answers come from your real situation, not a guess • Get every file and note organized once, synced everywhere, so you stop hunting for the right document • Capture your best ideas the moment they happen, so nothing gets buried in your inbox or forgotten by Fr… Related

It was exactly three years ago that I gave this talk on “regulatory capture” at the @theallinpod Summit. I did predict that the large incumbent AI companies would “beg for” regulation. No idea they would beg this hard. youtu.be

Speaking as head of the Center for Study of Public Choice, the capture story for an AI pause doesn't fit. Reg capture is what you attempt when you're losing. Anthropic is about to have the biggest IPO in history. Winners don't lobby for regulation. Anthropic Related

Apple has clearly thought a lot about how to handle the persistent capture and transmission of audio from a watch. The “Audio Intelligence Privacy Overview” linked below shows this. But it may all be for naught: folks first reaction is “it’s always listening to me!” and that’s an instinctive reaction that’s hard to overcome. This is a societal problem not a technical one. apple.com

💯Regulatory capture IS the problem. Quoting @ccatalini No, the underlying economics are not the problem. If we let the market play this out, we will be fine. The only real risk is concentration through regulatory capture. Related

What is a korrent?
A korrent is a belief a person has stated in their own words: one
sentence stating the claim, backed by a quote and a source, kept at
korrents.com .
Under a name here, the quoted block is what they actually said.
The korrent beneath it is the claim those words support, in
korrents' wording — tap it to see the record, its source, and who
else holds it.
Nobody here wrote their own korrents. They are compiled from public
statements, and a person can change their mind, which is recorded too.

About the English under a post
Some people here publish in a language other than English. Where they
do, this site shows a machine translation beneath the post, in
this typeface — the site's own, not theirs.
The post itself is never changed, moved or hidden: what is set in the
serif above is exactly what the person published, and it is what to
quote them on. A translation can be wrong in ways that matter,
especially about tone.
Only the post's own words are translated. A quoted post, a linked
article and a belief on korrents.com
are left in their original language.
