The option arbitrage stuff via yesterday's poll, @DeepDishEnjoyer dividend, and the silver early exercise post has spawned a bunch of chats on TL & DMs. Seems to be a lot of people screwing with options but missing fundamental education. Another first-principles type example: Related

shout-out to indie wine club in tooting market which is where we're going to do all our AI hardware chats from here on out Quoting @danielfogg The problem with a device that can do anything is that you have to imagine what to ask it to do. Physical form changes that. A clock, lamp, or calendar gives you a way in. It constrains an agent just enough to make its possibilities easier to imagine. We don’t know yet what the right forms for agen… Related

NASA spent decades perfecting a hiring filter that has nothing to do with technical skill. The researchers found test scores and flight hours couldn't predict which crews held together, all it needed was one bad mood to destroy an entire mission. Here's what they screen for: 🧵 Related

in case you’re not living in the tech bubble, as a general rule i’ve been surprised by how infrequently top tier folks actually meet/know each other. as an outsider i might have assumed that everyone is in secret illuminati group chats. those exist, but are very much short lived exceptions rather than the rule. what you see of the major headlines is pretty much what they also see. i guess one way to interpret this is also simply that most effort is still on doing the work rather than working the narrative or the gossip. and that, to me at least, is genuinely quite reassuring, this far in to m… Quoting @TechEmails Anthropic cofounder emails Noam Shazeer November 21, 2021 Related

After a civil engineering prof mention that the people in their department who work on water quality/treatment tend to drink out of the water cooler and not drink tap water, I tried getting a water filtration system. "Everyone" says Vancouver has really good water, so I didn't expect much, but the system's pre-filter catches a lot of green flecks (copper). The RDA of copper is < 1mg, which is on the order of these flecks, so it seems like I was ingesting many times the RDA in copper daily. Related

it's, I think, critical that ideas don't die on the vine because you've got, um, a visual expression that doesn't match what everyone else expects. Sometimes people will just filter them out because they don't look right.

What is a korrent?
A korrent is a belief a person has stated in their own words: one
sentence stating the claim, backed by a quote and a source, kept at
korrents.com .
Under a name here, the quoted block is what they actually said.
The korrent beneath it is the claim those words support, in
korrents' wording — tap it to see the record, its source, and who
else holds it.
Nobody here wrote their own korrents. They are compiled from public
statements, and a person can change their mind, which is recorded too.

About the English under a post
Some people here publish in a language other than English. Where they
do, this site shows a machine translation beneath the post, in
this typeface — the site's own, not theirs.
The post itself is never changed, moved or hidden: what is set in the
serif above is exactly what the person published, and it is what to
quote them on. A translation can be wrong in ways that matter,
especially about tone.
Only the post's own words are translated. A quoted post, a linked
article and a belief on korrents.com
are left in their original language.
