Librarian, technology instructor and writer in rural Vermont; longtime community manager at MetaFilter and author of a book on the digital divide.
Was making polite chitchat with a local older friend (who used to be sec. of state, no slouch) at an event yesterday. He tried to send me a video of Bernie talking about AI, how we were all cooked etc. I said "Why would I want to watch that? I'm not going to watch that." and he took offense as if I were the one who was being rude. It's been weighing on me today, feeling weird about being honest and/or rude here. I try to be agreeable, not poop in the punch bowl. But doomerism at a nice party? Related

Swedish open source developer; creator and lead maintainer of curl and libcurl, and a co-founder of the Rockbox project.
I had a look at the “project number of CVEs” that we estimated back at #curl up in late May. We then said it could end up at 55 by the end of the year. As we now already have published 45 and there are (at least) 20 coming, we have certainly exceeded those projections. The question is now rather if it will even be below 80 by the end of the year. The perfect freezer-to-toaster waffle [cough, Deb-Os], crisp on the outside and tender inside with a heavenly aroma, and it couldn’t be easier: a one-bowl, butter and yogurt-enriched batter. Related

A #cosmicdistanceLadder post on the many ways we project our planet onto a plane. No projection can faithfully reproduce *all* the geometric features of a sphere, so each projection is a compromise; but some projections are still preferred for specific applications. instagram.com

What is a korrent?
A korrent is a belief a person has stated in their own words: one
sentence stating the claim, backed by a quote and a source, kept at
korrents.com .
Under a name here, the quoted block is what they actually said.
The korrent beneath it is the claim those words support, in
korrents' wording — tap it to see the record, its source, and who
else holds it.
Nobody here wrote their own korrents. They are compiled from public
statements, and a person can change their mind, which is recorded too.

About the English under a post
Some people here publish in a language other than English. Where they
do, this site shows a machine translation beneath the post, in
this typeface — the site's own, not theirs.
The post itself is never changed, moved or hidden: what is set in the
serif above is exactly what the person published, and it is what to
quote them on. A translation can be wrong in ways that matter,
especially about tone.
Only the post's own words are translated. A quoted post, a linked
article and a belief on korrents.com
are left in their original language.
