I started in TinkerCAD, which can get you VERY far, VERY quickly. Now I make most models in Onshape, since I've built up the skills to be pretty fast with it, too. I sometimes print stuff I find on Makerworld, but usually the problems I'm trying to solve are too specialized. Related

The worst part of developing the app was having to carry an iPad with me. 😬 Every time I try to work an iPad into my computing life, it doesn't stick for very long. It feels like computing with mittens on. Nearly everything I frequently do with my computer or phone is less capable, more cumbersome, or outright impossible on an iPad. And the iPad's strengths are generally things I rarely or never do. Related

Human traffic is probably down because I haven't been active for the last couple years, so maybe we can call that a 4x to 5x increase due to bots? Maybe my site just isn't very appealing to bots, but from the way people talk, I was expecting a higher ratio. I would've guessed >= 100x from how people are talking; 10x would be nothing in terms of load. Related

(Unforgetful only asks for the level it needs for the tasks you create. So if you never use delays, it sticks with "when using", and if you never use location reminders at all, it never asks for any access.) But a likely reason is that they just didn't think of it, because most to-do apps seem to be made by people with much more discipline and focus than I have. Related

A while ago, @regehr was tooting about optimizing brainfuck, and I speculated that peeling off the first iteration of a loop might make the loop body easier to optimize: https://mastodon.social/@nelhage/113241955294210125 Today I learned that RPython/PyPy use a very similar idea to support loop optimizations in their trace optimizer: https://dl.acm.org/doi/epdf/10.1145/2480360.2384586 By peeling off a single loop iteration, the optimizer can "see" that the body proper is dominated by the first iteration, and specialize much harder.
