Data scientist and machine-learning researcher; chief scientist at bitly, founder of Fast Forward Labs and Hidden Door.
Yesterday I flew LAS->NYC, noticed a white woman at the lounge with a sticker like the "I voted!" stickers but it said "I like ICE". Then she and her husband pushed aside wheelchairs to "preboard", announcing they were in first class Then they were rude to the flight attendants. The worst people. Related

I put my phone on airplane mode to read this, so I wouldn’t be distracted. “Mark” by @colossusjeremy is one of the best profiles I’ve ever read. I hope you enjoy it, and learn as much as I did. Quoting @colossusmag Mark, by @colossusjeremy. This is a story about the head of history's largest nonterritorial empire, who nonetheless remains a prisoner of his rivals. 1 hour 18 minutes. Flew by. Good showing by Ternus. Quick honest reaction is: better than Cook at these keynotes, but lacks the off-the-cuff nature and energy of Jobs. It's early. But also we NEED to go back to live. iPhone Duo demos would have been awesome live. #AppleEvent energy Related

Also a big fan of Flighty, but feels like a perfect example why data ownership and local-first are important to me. He just wanted to correlate his personal flights with his health data and publish the results! From one piece
Blake Scholl: How 50 People Built a Supersonic Jet
3 beliefs, in the piece's order there
Their words
This is a supersonic engine adapted for ground power generation that can ship without the rest of the airplane, thereby generating the test data, the learnings, the reliability, and also the capital that we need to go big.

Their words
In 1969, we landed on the moon for the first time and the same year we flew Concord, the faster than the speed of sound airliner. The future was supposed to be faster and better. where we're supposed to look forward to innovation in air and in space. And yet, half a century later, we can't go to the moon and we can't fly faster than the speed of sound.

Their words
But great airplanes are incredibly integrated and everything affects everything else. uh the the best airplane design is interplay of propulsion, of aerodynamics, of structures, of all kinds of optimizations, how you fit the systems into it.

I’ve been a big fan of what @united is doing in general, but from what I’ve heard (via other passengers and flight attendants), it seems they didn’t renew their Panasonic contract for widebodies while Starlink is rolled out. I’m pumped about Starlink and will seek out United once I know it’s available (had it this week and it was awesome). Until then, however, no Internet, particular on transoceanic flights, is unacceptable and a very poor choice by United’s management. I’ll be flying someone else for those for now. Quoting @sliccardo I’ve just endured my third consecutive long-haul flight on @united with no WiFi. I’ve just decided to choose any other airline available, even if I have to connect to DC through New Zealand. Related

What is a korrent?
A korrent is a belief a person has stated in their own words: one
sentence stating the claim, backed by a quote and a source, kept at
korrents.com .
Under a name here, the quoted block is what they actually said.
The korrent beneath it is the claim those words support, in
korrents' wording — tap it to see the record, its source, and who
else holds it.
Nobody here wrote their own korrents. They are compiled from public
statements, and a person can change their mind, which is recorded too.

About the English under a post
Some people here publish in a language other than English. Where they
do, this site shows a machine translation beneath the post, in
this typeface — the site's own, not theirs.
The post itself is never changed, moved or hidden: what is set in the
serif above is exactly what the person published, and it is what to
quote them on. A translation can be wrong in ways that matter,
especially about tone.
Only the post's own words are translated. A quoted post, a linked
article and a belief on korrents.com
are left in their original language.
