This is supposed to be a dig against Linux, but it's actually why Linux is so great. There are so many different versions, all of which benefit from work on the kernel, software that runs on it, etc., but users can have the experience they want. I run Arch with Hyprland, but I'd never suggest that's the best for the average consumer. I am slowly trying to figure out Nix/NixOS. I just realized something I'm very confused by: Is it really the case “pinning’ in NixOS prototypically means “pinning a single version of the entire package repository, and then pulling in whatever versions it contains”?
