On a trading day when interest rates are moving markets, I look at rising rates in 2026, hazard a guess as to why they are rising, and make a stab at explaining the resilience of equities in the face of rising rates, with nary a mention of the Fed. bit.ly

After a civil engineering prof mention that the people in their department who work on water quality/treatment tend to drink out of the water cooler and not drink tap water, I tried getting a water filtration system. "Everyone" says Vancouver has really good water, so I didn't expect much, but the system's pre-filter catches a lot of green flecks (copper). The RDA of copper is < 1mg, which is on the order of these flecks, so it seems like I was ingesting many times the RDA in copper daily. Related

For some reason, @Jason neglected to mention in the summary below that I also do a very poor impression of Bono near the end of this (otherwise very engaging) conversation. Thanks for having me back @ThisWeeknAI! Quoting @ThisWeeknAI "If you had a great tutor, you wouldn't sit down and say please write my paper for me." - @stevenbjohnson The first generation raised on ChatGPT booed AI at graduation. This Mac app bug is one of the single most enraging bugs I've encountered in years! It's in all of the betas too. You get someone's @ mention randomly added to the chat when you press "Enter" and you have to click to get rid of it (and then it will come back on the next message). Quoting @benthompson Mac app: if you @-mention someone in a group chat, the @-mention is just permanently stuck in the UI and enters itself into the chat if you press Enter iPhone app: tweets only unfurl at half-height, making them unreadable. Mac bug debilitating. Related

What is a korrent?
A korrent is a belief a person has stated in their own words: one
sentence stating the claim, backed by a quote and a source, kept at
korrents.com .
Under a name here, the quoted block is what they actually said.
The korrent beneath it is the claim those words support, in
korrents' wording — tap it to see the record, its source, and who
else holds it.
Nobody here wrote their own korrents. They are compiled from public
statements, and a person can change their mind, which is recorded too.

About the English under a post
Some people here publish in a language other than English. Where they
do, this site shows a machine translation beneath the post, in
this typeface — the site's own, not theirs.
The post itself is never changed, moved or hidden: what is set in the
serif above is exactly what the person published, and it is what to
quote them on. A translation can be wrong in ways that matter,
especially about tone.
Only the post's own words are translated. A quoted post, a linked
article and a belief on korrents.com
are left in their original language.
