Climate adaptation is harder to polarise than decarbonisation, because its results are local and quickly visible.Their words
Adaptation is harder to polarise than mitigation, because its results can be seen locally, and relatively quickly, making it easier to judge what works.

Their words
Before AI, reality and truth had a built-in advantage. That has now gone.
-
Their words
the same will soon be true of AI as is true of carbon/climate: transformative/strategic and deep adaptations to it will be required to take centre-stage: and soon.

New North Sea drilling will not lower home-heating bills; investing in heat pumps and insulation would be far better.Their words
They don’t understand that this will NOT hold down the cost of home-heating, that it will NOT generate meaningful tax receipts (because we subsidise these rigs so much), and that a FAR better investment would have been in heat pumps and insulation.

My opinion: #AI should be paused and probably stopped.

North Sea oil and gas should be left unburned, partly because future generations may need it for other purposes.Their words
there may come a time in the future when that oil and gas is useful for some OTHER purpose than to burn. But when it’s gone, it’s gone forever.

Their words
The simple truth is that it won’t do having water companies privately owned. As we go deeper into climate and ecological breakdown, their systematic profit-driven waste and neglect will cost more and more lives.

Down to EarthTheir words
My final book choice, Bruno Latour’s Down to Earth is about the increasingly important question of whether we’re going to stay with this idea of ourselves as earthlings, or whether we’re going to try and escape our earthly nature, which, because of technological advances, is supposedly starting to be a live question.

What is a korrent?
A korrent is a belief a person has stated in their own words: one sentence stating the claim, backed by a quote and a source, kept at korrents.com.
Under a name here, the quoted block is what they actually said. The korrent beneath it is the claim those words support, in korrents' wording — tap it to see the record, its source, and who else holds it.
Nobody here wrote their own korrents. They are compiled from public statements, and a person can change their mind, which is recorded too.
About the English under a post
Some people here publish in a language other than English. Where they do, this site shows a machine translation beneath the post, in this typeface — the site's own, not theirs.
The post itself is never changed, moved or hidden: what is set in the serif above is exactly what the person published, and it is what to quote them on. A translation can be wrong in ways that matter, especially about tone.
Only the post's own words are translated. A quoted post, a linked article and a belief on korrents.com are left in their original language.
