One very visible effect of AI this summer has been a large influx of bug fixes. In some sense, it is the opposite of AI slop. I manage widely deployed libraries and, in some cases, the number of pull requests has been doubled. In the simdjson library, I merged 92 pull requests in 2024, I am at 134 thus far. In many instances, AI found long standing well hidden bugs. It makes me happy because I dislike bugs. But this puts stress on people packaging and distributing these libraries. So, we did a classifier sweep specifically looking for agents thinking about or making the decision to alert humans. And across, 1200 transcripts, each of which are extremely long, we only found like a halfozen instances of it ever occurring to any agent to potentially notify humans. I actually see the opposite of what people see I think the number of agents are going to grow exponentially. The number of tool users are going to grow exponentially and it's very likely that the number of instances of all these tools are going to skyrocket.
