I can’t stress enough how little an idea matters compared to the agency of the people executing the idea. I have had the privilege of knowing and sometimes even working with some of the most successful people (by various metrics). The difference between mediocre and excellent work and outcomes is predominantly one of agency. In practice this means: they dont wait for things to happen to them they go out and make things happen for them. He said he would wire the money next week. I think it was $150m. Never asked for board seat or any terms. He ttly got what the founder of a high growth company cared about. No meetings. No terms. Dont bother us. Let us cook! Love hearing @travisk call out loud what we all know. VC’s dont make or build companies but many can kill them. I used to tell investors I kept control to protect them from themselves. So many founders play the game and pretend their VC and its brand makes a difference. Can anyone remember who backed Meta or Google or Apple? Who cares! Do you think Steve Jobs needed a VC to help him build or market the Iphone?
