The stress of marginal weight management may outweigh its benefits.
I'm convinced that the stress of those years of marginal weight management outweighed the benefits. After almost all of my biggest wins came a week of some kind of illness

Raising the barrier to entry through high-tech equipment and medical enhancement limits the pool of participating athletes.
If we raise that barrier to people who can afford high-tech custom shoes and suits, steroids, EPO, and medical care to use those without dying, we're "enhancing" the performance of a handful who have access, while drastically limiting the pool of athletes who could participate to begin with.

What I Really Retired From, When I Retired as a Pro Athlete Said 17 Jun 2026
Having the right people and good advice is more valuable to athletes than they might realize.
The most successful athletes sound much older they are, and I think having the right people around you and getting good advice is more valuable than they might realize.

The Enhanced Games is a modern, dystopian adaptation of ancient Roman gladiators.
The sport on display at the Enhanced Games wasn't swimming or running or weightlifting: it's a modern, dystopian adaptation of the gladiators in ancient Rome: Peter Thiel and his friends wish that they could watch slaves and prisoners kill each other for sport, cheered on by the masses.

More athletes will seize the opportunity of the Enhanced Games if big money is still available in future editions.
If big money is still up for grabs in the next edition, more athletes will seize the opportunity.

Tubeless tires are an improvement for all users and applications except cyclocross racing and Paris-Roubaix.
With better rolling resistance and the UCI weight limit on road bikes, I'll go this far: tubeless tires are an improvement for all users and applications other than cyclocross racing and Paris-Roubaix.

Professional bike racing teams will eventually resemble NASCAR or F1, using identical race bikes that differ from consumer models.
A bike team will always have a bike sponsor, but it would be more like NASCAR or F1, meaning all of the race bikes will look identical, bear a Trek or Specialized logo, but will be nothing like the Trek or Specialized on offer at shops.

The bike industry will need to separate designs for professionals and consumers to avoid losing customers.
As race bikes get more expensive and the gap closes between entry-level and mid-level offerings, I think the industry will have to separate their designs for pros and for consumers (and bring down the prices), before racers lose more skin, and the brands lose a big chunk of potential customers.

The UCI may not be in its best interest to uncover doping scandals that might hurt its business.
We'd think they're not trying if they don't catch anyone, but it's not in their best interest to uncover a scandal that might hurt their business.
"Should Lance Armstrong's Best Friend Have a Cycling Team?" Said 13 Mar 2026
George Hincapie is one of the least suitable people to run a professional cycling team.
To me, he's the second or third-to-last person on Earth that should run a bike team (hi, Johann).

What is a korrent?
A korrent is a belief a person has stated in their own words: one sentence stating the claim, backed by a quote and a source, kept at korrents.com.
Under a name here, the quoted block is what they actually said. The korrent beneath it is the claim those words support, in korrents' wording — tap it to see the record, its source, and who else holds it.
Nobody here wrote their own korrents. They are compiled from public statements, and a person can change their mind, which is recorded too.

About the English under a post
Some people here publish in a language other than English. Where they do, this site shows a machine translation beneath the post, in this typeface — the site's own, not theirs.
The post itself is never changed, moved or hidden: what is set in the serif above is exactly what the person published, and it is what to quote them on. A translation can be wrong in ways that matter, especially about tone.
Only the post's own words are translated. A quoted post, a linked article and a belief on korrents.com are left in their original language.
