Their words
These habits are useful in ordinary life. They become particularly important when ordinary life is so thoroughly mediated by software.

Widely shared interface conventions amount to a form of mass education nobody enrolled in.Their words
Scale this across people using the same conventions, and interface design starts to look like a form of mass education with no enrollment process.

Interfaces shape what people notice, categorize, remember, and consider possible to do.Their words
an interface participates in the formation of thought. It helps establish what we notice, how we categorize it, what we remember, and which actions occur to us as possible.

That is the thirst trap: the product increases the rate at which you can turn intention into reality, which increases your appetite for continuation, then meters the continuation. It teaches you to work at a cognitive velocity that the lower plan cannot sustain.

The metrics a product displays to users shape their values and behavior, regardless of the designer's intent.Their words
I keep returning to the principle that the metrics you expose are the values you endorse. A meter changes behavior whether or not its designer intends every consequence.

Their words
Old-school programming asked how long I could stay with a problem. Agentic programming increasingly asks how much problem I can keep moving before the window resets. Those are not the same question.

Giving something a name does not create it, but it changes the conditions under which it develops.Their words
A name does not necessarily invent the presence, but it changes the conditions under which the presence develops.

A framing of an experience can accurately capture how it feels while being wrong about why it happens.Their words
Symbolism excels at meaning and pattern, not automatic verification. It can reveal how something feels while being wrong about why it feels that way.

Their words
Function is not ontology. A working API specification tells me what calls are available and how the system behaves at the boundary.

A public software preview should already be usable, not just a concept a viewer has to imagine around a screenshot.Their words
A public preview should not mean "please imagine a product around this screenshot."

It is what every library you care about should look like: one canonical collection you control, and as many native doors into it as you have screens.

Software that sets out to own a user's data starts out helpful and ends up forcing a migration.Their words
Every tool that decides it should own your data begins by being helpful and ends as a migration.

Software bugs most often arise at boundaries where reality does not respect the divisions assumed by the source code.Their words
Reality is under no obligation to respect the boundaries in our source tree.

Software becomes more robust when the names used inside its code reflect the intention behind it.Their words
This is a pattern I keep rediscovering: software becomes sturdier when the names inside it describe the intention outside it.

What is a korrent?
A korrent is a belief a person has stated in their own words: one sentence stating the claim, backed by a quote and a source, kept at korrents.com.
Under a name here, the quoted block is what they actually said. The korrent beneath it is the claim those words support, in korrents' wording — tap it to see the record, its source, and who else holds it.
Nobody here wrote their own korrents. They are compiled from public statements, and a person can change their mind, which is recorded too.
About the English under a post
Some people here publish in a language other than English. Where they do, this site shows a machine translation beneath the post, in this typeface — the site's own, not theirs.
The post itself is never changed, moved or hidden: what is set in the serif above is exactly what the person published, and it is what to quote them on. A translation can be wrong in ways that matter, especially about tone.
Only the post's own words are translated. A quoted post, a linked article and a belief on korrents.com are left in their original language.
