The current heatwaves are a dress rehearsal for much more challenging heatwaves to come if action is not taken.

Their words

They're a dress rehearsal for the much more challenging heatwaves to come if we fail to act.

Summers are becoming hotter and more extreme in the long term.

Their words

Not every summer will be hotter than the last but the long term direction is clear: our summers are becoming hotter and more extreme.

The recent decline in aerosol emissions is not a reason to choose a human-induced climate change framing, unless discussing the recent rate of change.

climate change

Their words

There may be reasons to choose a human-induced climate change framing but, in my view, the recent decline in aerosol emissions is not one of them, unless it is particularly important to discuss the recent rate of change.

The IPCC would likely have assessed a warming range of 0.4-0.8°C rather than 0.3-0.7°C if improved observational datasets had been available.

Their words

It is therefore probable that the IPCC would have assessed 0.4-0.8°C rather than 0.3-0.7°C had we had the improved observational datasets.

The IPCC AR5 near-term warming assessment was reasonable given the published evidence at the time.

Their words

Overall I think the assessment made by AR5 for near-term warming was reasonable given the published evidence at the time.

Translating past extreme weather events into a modern or future warmer climate can provide useful insights into how extreme weather will cause more damage.

Their words

This example highlights the value of considering real events from the past, and how translating them into a modern or future warmer climate can give us useful insights into how extreme weather will now cause more damage even if the synoptic events are the same.

It is likely that the same 1903 storm would have produced even heavier rainfall in a warmer world like today.

Their words

It is therefore likely that had the same 1903 storm occurred in a warmer world like today then the already intense rainfall would have been even heavier.

What is a korrent?

A korrent is a belief a person has stated in their own words: one sentence stating the claim, backed by a quote and a source, kept at korrents.com.

Under a name here, the quoted block is what they actually said. The korrent beneath it is the claim those words support, in korrents' wording — tap it to see the record, its source, and who else holds it.

Nobody here wrote their own korrents. They are compiled from public statements, and a person can change their mind, which is recorded too.

About the English under a post

Some people here publish in a language other than English. Where they do, this site shows a machine translation beneath the post, in this typeface — the site's own, not theirs.

The post itself is never changed, moved or hidden: what is set in the serif above is exactly what the person published, and it is what to quote them on. A translation can be wrong in ways that matter, especially about tone.

Only the post's own words are translated. A quoted post, a linked article and a belief on korrents.com are left in their original language.
