occurs to me that plastic surgeons are probably going to see an increase in requests to alter faces to meet AI image standards. Both because people use the tools to brainstorm the surgeries they want, and also because AI images are proliferating in public consciousness Related

An illustration of how different the media environment was in 2001: no social media, so no way to e.g. cross-reference LinkedIn and Instagram and figure out which Marsh & McLennan employee was such an avid rock climber that he climbed down more than a dozen floors before falling. Related

It is important to distinguish between rational arguments and moral arguments. If one says 'A super intelligent will kill us all'. They are making a moral statement, not a rational one. It is the same type of statements as in 'if you don't put plastic walls in the grocery stores, the elderly will die'. Or 'if you drive a gasoline car, you are destroying the planet'. All of these statements have a rational basis. But the rational basis is secondary in practice. The person making the statement does not have to provide rational evidence, and providing contrary rational evidence will not affect t… Quoting @cmuratori I don't follow this explanation. Could someone at one of these labs complete the thought publicly, so I can understand exactly what is being proposed? What difference would it make if your company "gets there first"? What specifically are you going to instruct your first-mover human-extinction-capa… Related

What is a korrent?
A korrent is a belief a person has stated in their own words: one
sentence stating the claim, backed by a quote and a source, kept at
korrents.com .
Under a name here, the quoted block is what they actually said.
The korrent beneath it is the claim those words support, in
korrents' wording — tap it to see the record, its source, and who
else holds it.
Nobody here wrote their own korrents. They are compiled from public
statements, and a person can change their mind, which is recorded too.

About the English under a post
Some people here publish in a language other than English. Where they
do, this site shows a machine translation beneath the post, in
this typeface — the site's own, not theirs.
The post itself is never changed, moved or hidden: what is set in the
serif above is exactly what the person published, and it is what to
quote them on. A translation can be wrong in ways that matter,
especially about tone.
Only the post's own words are translated. A quoted post, a linked
article and a belief on korrents.com
are left in their original language.
