In my recent ICM talk, I displayed a diagram of the life cycle of an individual problem, from an open problem all the way to a definitive solution, with a key point being that AI tools have been far more effective at accelerating some portions of this cycle than others. A point which I made verbally in the talk, but not in the image, was that the definitive solutions to problems also formed the base for subsequent progress in the field, both by suggesting new key problems to work on, and to supply new techniques to tackle these problems. I therefore enclose a further evolution of the diagram…
